When I decided to pursue a Master’s in Fisheries Science and Management, my goal was to deepen my knowledge and return to Malawi to improve fisheries management. Thanks to a development partnership between the Australian and Malawi governments, I was offered the opportunity to study at James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville, Australia. JCU’s world-class research in tropical biodiversity was the perfect fit for my career aspirations.

Townsville has been an ideal place for career growth. The region’s unique tropical biodiversity provides endless opportunities for learning and collaboration. Through my studies, I’ve been able to connect with leading experts in ecology and conservation, building relationships that have led to exciting projects, such as my upcoming collaboration with WorldFish. This partnership will focus on understanding how fisheries management decisions impact communities that depend on fish for food – a project perfectly aligned with my goals in sustainable fisheries management.
